General meeting in the stockyards

Dear diary… Little Gwelo had an outdoor general meeting today, in the stockyards about the new stockyards coming in soon. With management attendees, Betsy, Rose, T & myself.
Betsy was wanting full details on the outlay & where the nuts are going to be kept! Rose on the other hand, not too fussed on details, but a cuddle and good scratch was much more important.
Betsy, double counting T’s steps to ensure measurement are correct & Finn just finding any reason to be close to Betsy 💝💝, as he has a secret crush on the pregnant girl 🥰🥰🥰.

Betsy “ show me again where the nuts are going to go!”
Just a cuddle will do!

Playing Medic again..

Dear diary… suspected of drunken flying after a night out, this gender neutral feathered friend was picked up on the deck after crashing into the bifold door. It was taken to ICU, but due to the pandemic, there are no icu beds available. So a makeshift Tupperware layered with soft cotton wool and Kleenex aloe Vera tissues, was made. The house medic (myself) with absolutely zero knowledge on bird veterinary and with no past medical history on the little thing (and I apologies in advance for call it a “little thing“ because for all I know, it may think it’s a bald headed eagle 🦅, so who am I to judge and burst it’s bubble!) is gently placed in the bed. Giving it a gentle stroking attention, which I find is a huge help in its recovery process, it fell asleep!
So to put everyone’s mind at ease, I have not posted a Silver eye/ 🦅 lying in state, it’s just sleeping, trying to get better. ✅

A few hours later, he was up and ready to fly again. 👍

A mother & baby bond 💝

Dear diary…
No mater the species, a mother & baby bond is so special. Blue had Murphy in 2019. Once weened, they were put on different end of the farm for 2 years Yesterday, they were put in the same paddock yesterday because of the shortage of good grass. What I witnessed was so beautiful! They knew they were family. She is truly a wonderful mother and her 3rd calf is due in November. 💝💝

Tank, you’re an awesome little guy!

Dear diary….so today was one of those OMG days… why I hear you ask, well….. I saw my 1st unborn calf today! A milestone for me!
We called the vet out do a preggie test on Poppy and Blue. Blue is our largest cow ( 1st photo, Black mum with little chap Bolt). Josh, our vet kindly allowed me to take a peak with the Ultrasound wand and wow… is all I could say! Saw ribs, legs and head. How awesome is Mother Nature!
Now… as you maybe aware, we were totally ignorant to the breed “Low line Angus” thinking it was just a name of a breed and not that it was an actual short shit bull, but, that’s besides the point! This pint size bull has actually covered our largest cow! 😱😱😱 Even our vet thought we were a little optimistic, thinking this little chap would be up to the task. When the top of his head barely reached her butt, one actually wonders, how on earth was he able to do it! We had no trampolines in the paddock, no major trenches. Yet this cunning little brick nailed it or her, in this case ☺️☺️ and for me to get to see her baby, well.. was quiet emotional! But it was absolutely awesome! Due date, December… Merry Christmas 🎄

Blue is in calf ! 👍👍👍

Our in-house medic

Dear diary… we are very lucky to have very own in-house medic! Yip…Ollie has taken on the roll and is alway very thorough. It was Maggie’s turn this morning. First he was the ENT specialist and did an ear check, then became the ophthalmologist and did an eye check and finally became the dentist and did a teeth check. Once he was done, one look from him told me that he was quiet happy with her over all, but she could loose a couple of Kgs as she took up most of the bed! No Lambulance required 🚑🛻🚑.
